Perfect Harmony
Moored at Huntingdon

15th June '13

I can't believe that it was only 2 days ago that we left Reading. We seem to have done and seen so much since then.

We moored at Henley after leaving Reading and it was lovely.

Here is the bridge that spans the river there. We took Paddy for a walk first of all to have a quick discover and then we had lunch at the Angel - apparently quite an iconic watering house right next to the bridge where I enjoyed another Pimms (I'm becoming quite an expert) and we had a lovely lunch.

This is the pub from the river...

In the morning we didn't hurry away because we weren't going far. We were totally blown away by the preparations for the Regatta...

Some of the rather nice waterside residences! How many friends do they have during Regatta week we wondered?

This is heading out along the regatta course and then looking back along it towards Henley.

Here we are arriving at Marlow - another lovely little town - one that features in 'Three Men and a Boat'. They stocked up here, if you remember the story. This is a rather lovely suspension bridge with the Church behind it. A very similar plan to Henley but very different styles.

We moored here and luckily chose the section were we didn't have to pay - if we'd moored a few yard nearer the town it would have been £11 a night and they apparently do come after you!

Again we took Paddy for a walk and then went off on our own. I'd spotted a Whisky Bar but John wanted to go to the Compleat Angler on the other side of the bridge. So we did and discovered that it was a very posh hotel with a bar that non-residents could use. A Pimms and a bottle of cider were just under £20 but we did get salted almonds and some olives to go with it. John wished we'd gone to the Whisky Bar!

We sat on this veranda to drink our very exclusive drinks! There was a very impressive weir next to it but we were busy trying to spot where the lock was when we were on the boat taking this.

Managed to get this one just before we found the lock! I love the locks on the Thames - people to open and shut them and the most we have to do is to hold the ropes while the lock empties! Bliss.

I'm really enjoying this trip, having more time to explore and see the sights. My total lack of geographical knowledge means that every stop is a surprise as I have no idea where the places are that we are going to!

We have moored at Cookham today and had a very heavy thunder storm after we'd moored and taken Paddy out. It meant that I was able to catch up on some knitting. Tomorrow we are going to Windsor - at least I know where that is and just hope that the moorings are available as it might be busy being Sunday. It's Fathers Day as well so Paddy has a surprise in store for his Dad!

We have met lots of canoeists, rowers and one swimmer in the water - it makes it a nightmare to navigate around them. John hopes that there were no more swimmers that he hadn't spotted, but the propeller appears to be clear so hopefully all is well.

There you go for all you non-believers!

There have been cuckoos all the way along the Thames so far - so lovely.
